This Evening's Super Fan

random
This afternoon my neighbor offered me a ticket to tonight’s Wild game. It isn’t my favorite sport, but I’ve been to a few games now so I definitely enjoy it and have some understanding of the game. However, 4th row tickets made me a super fan at least for the evening. I had no idea how invigorating it is to see someone checked into the glass in front of you!

Two Hours

random

runnings
I feel a little exhausted, but my knee is doing well. My friend and I went out with the goal of 11 miles today. She and I were feeling great as we came back to the lake we started at, so she suggested we run around it again. I guess you can’t stop two motivated women so we gave each other a look, smiled, high-fived (yes, we really did) and headed around the lake. By the end we were hurting, but quite proud of ourselves. Our full run was 2 hours and I’m pretty sure we went about 13.5 miles. Now that I think about it, this may be my longest run! It’s so great to have motivation in friends!

Eggs

random
Eggs… lots and lots of eggs. Thirty dozen in fact. Apparently an hour isn’t long enough in a roaster to get eggs scrambled, so with fifteen minutes to go, my crew and I started mass scrambling in pans and electric skillets. We pulled it off and served over a hundred people for Easter breakfast at my church.

Saturday I debated between taking the weekend off and trying a short run to test my knee. My knee is doing a lot better and I can go up and down stairs again without hobbling. I couldn’t decide if another day off would help, or if going for a short run would ease my knee back into things. I decided I should try a short run. I at least went to the gym to avoid slipping on the fresh snow (which I'm pretty tired of!). The three miles didn’t seem to aggravate my knee much so I’m going to dive back in this week.

Asleep With Ice

random

runnings
I took today off from running even though it was hard to resist. I plan to take tomorrow off and am considering skipping a long run this weekend. I’m not sure if it my running lately or the slip on the ice during my run Saturday, but my right knee has started causing me issue. I’m following an icing regimen that consists of falling asleep with ice on my knee and groggily removing it in the middle of the night. I think the fact that I can fall asleep in minutes on my back (my least favorite position to fall asleep in) and with cold ice on my knee indicates I’m also a little worn out. I'm off to bed...

Registered and Booked

random

runnings
I’ve signed up for the Sydney Half Marathon and booked a ticket. Two halves in about a month’s time. This may be a good indication of if I can take on my first marathon.

Sale 13s

random

runnings
At the recommendation of a friend, I stopped by Run N Fun yesterday to look for new shoes which I desperately need. The store was filled with high school and middle school students and their parents, but someone did take the time to help me find the same pair of shoes I have now. The Asics Gel Kayano is now on 14, but when I mentioned I currently had the 13s, the salesperson found two pair in the basement at clearance prices. I was ready to purchase two pair of the 14s, so I appreciate the effort to find me the cheaper pair. I’m ready to cash in on my Christmas present Mom!

Cabooze and Northrup

random
Thursday night was Grace Potter at the Cabooze and last night was the State Ballet of the Republic of Georgia at Northrop. I’m a little surprised to say I enjoyed Friday more than Thursday. However, the opener for Grace Potter was far from my style and in my opinion, played much too long. The opener tried a little hard to be avant-garde with some drums, electronics and maybe a variance of three notes on the organ. Perhaps add a little more depth with four notes and I would have been interested. But probably not.

My 10 miles today were not very good. It was a good thing I ran with a friend to keep me on track and motivated. I think I did not hydrate enough yesterday nor did I get enough sleep that last two nights. I also have to figure out this ankle thing:

Forced to Consider

random

runnings
I’ve been forced to consider the Twin Cities Marathon this year. The last two years I’ve run the 10 mile, which is a lottery registration. I’ve been up at midnight to register for the 1 mile in order to be one of the first 600 registrants, who are guaranteed 10 mile entry. Registration for this year’s 1-mile opened at midnight last night. Last night at midnight I had no internet at home. (Yes, I was uncomfortable not having the Internet for an evening…) A few friends of mine are planning on the marathon already, so I’d started thinking about and just have to think harder now.

Congratulations

random
Two friends of mine got engaged last night. Congratulations!

runnings
It took most of the day before I felt it was warm enough to go for a long run, but I finally go out around 4pm. I thought it wouldn’t be so bad since it was close to 20°F outside, but the 6°F wind chill occasionally made the 11 miles feel rougher than it should have. The rest of the run was pretty good except that I’ve found I’m kicking the inside of my ankle to the point of it bleeding. I’ve known that when I get tired I tend to scuff the inside of my ankle, but last week I drew some blood. I though it was from the time I slipped a bit on the snow, but it happened again this week. Looks like I need to pay attention to my form when tired.

Favre Retires

random
I’m in mourning. He’s really the only quarterback I’ve known. Well, except when I used to watch the Vikings with my dad when I was young, but I shouldn’t admit that.

Krispy Kreme Burger

random
I was sure I’d heard on MPR that Krispy Kreme was no longer in Minnesota. While searching for evidence of this, I came across an article about the Krispy Kreme burger. It is a bacon cheeseburger on a Krispy Kreme bun found at the concessions of the St. Louis minor league baseball team, the Gateway Grizzlies. At 1000 calories and 45 grams of fat, it’s a good thing Krispy Kreme left before the burger could be introduced here.

runnings
I thought it was supposed to be in the 30s today, but despite the 14 degrees, my friend and I still got out for 8 miles this morning. Although I’d done 10 last weekend, I decided it wouldn’t be a bad idea back off a little this weekend and not push my knees too quickly
