Ragnar Success

random

runnings
My Ragnar team had an incredibly successful run last weekend. In fact, we finished an hour and a half faster than we thought we would. I think each team member exceeded their own expectations. We placed 52nd out of 216 teams. As captain, I’m thrilled with our team results, but also as captain, I had a different experience this year. I was a bit consumed by organizing for the race a few weeks prior and during the race I found myself wanting to be sure people enjoyed themselves and that we played fair and followed the rules. I missed one social rule though. While on the course I don’t think it’s uncommon for people to make use of the woods. In the middle of the night I found myself needing to do just that. I was set to be the next runner and therefore wanted to make sure I relieved myself before my run. Not being shy, I chose to hop into the ditch next to the van as we waited for our runner to pass. Considering the dark, I didn’t actually venture far away from the van at all. As some cars approached us, I still wasn’t too concerned figuring people wouldn’t really be looking into the ditch. As the cars passed, I realized I was dressed and ready to be the next runner...which included a reflective vest. Whoops.

Hot 18

random
I went out with my camera with a friend of mine again for more practice shooting manually.

RF and managed an 18 mile route through the soup of Saturday morning. I was surprised how well it went considering the heat and humidity. I remember my legs hurting so much the last mile or two on our 18 miler last year, but this time my legs were fine and it was overheating that was the problem. RF and I even asked a woman watering her flowers to hose us down when we finished. I felt ok Saturday evening but Sunday I was completely exhausted and even suffered bouts of nausea and light-headedness throughout the day. I’m more likely to believe it was an after effect of the heat than the mileage. But I’m going to take it easy this week to get ready for Ragnar!

Possible Improvement

random

runnings
I’ve been pretty frustrated with running lately and I’m hesitant to get too excited, but things might be looking up. I had a pretty good running weekend. Saturday RF and I went for 13 and came out of it pretty wet but feeling like it was an easier distance. Tonight I met up with a few people from my Ragnar team and despite the humidity the run felt attainable the whole time. Next weekend RF and I tackling 18 miles so I’ll decide then if I should be excited or not.
