Camp Onomia

random
Winter time at Camp Onomia.

runnings
This weekend I learned what an LSD, or Long Slow Distance, can be. For the past few years I’ve enjoyed a run out in the country during the weekend I’ve spent at Camp Onomia. This year I ran it with a friend of mine that is a little slower. The goal was 8 or 9 miles, but I kept going for 10. Not only was it great weather and a beautiful change in scenery, but the pace was such that I was motivated to keep going after dropping my friend off at our starting point.

It Could Be Worse

random
While Utah felt balmy, I was surprised I didn’t find MN to be unbearably cold when I returned last night. The first morning I was in Salt Lake City one of the television stations had an ‘it could be worse’ segment to their weather. They featured Minneapolis for the morning high of 8°F.

Running in Utah

random

runnings
I got to put shorts on for a run outside today! I’m in Salt Lake City for work and my luggage was a day behind me, but I received it in time to go for a run this afternoon. The pollution warning wasn’t ideal, but the 38°F was.

Feeling a Run

random

runnings
I realized recently that lately as I’ve been going for longer runs I’m more after a feeling than a distance. I want that feeling of being expended, pushed and challenged. I want to feel the run the rest of the day. I haven’t been building my weekly mileage very well, but I’m working in the distance on the weekend. I went an extra half mile yesterday to make sure I’d be worn out. Of course, since we’re only talking of about 8 miles, that half mile did it.

Treadmill Intervals

random

runnings
Since it was another cold weekend, I didn’t get out for a long run. I instead gave in to a treadmill again. This time, however, I think I figured out a way to make it more bearable by doing intervals. After a brief mile warm up, I alternated speeds every quarter mile and two more miles went by quickly. I even found myself focusing on challenging myself instead of on when I could get off the treadmill.

Mika

random
Last night I went to First Ave with a friend to see Mika. I’ve never seen a show like it. Not only was the music incredibly fun, but there was an abundance of extra goodies. Confetti and streamer snow storms, a large M with Mika on top, a large dancing skeleton on stilts and fornicating shadow animals. Another friend with us said First Ave has never seen a show like this. And he actually has a star on First Ave's wall, so I’ll take his word for it.

Giving in to Facebook

random
Facebook has entered my social circle. I’m not sure what I think of it yet, but to avoid appearing too old or out of touch, I’m on board. Apparently there are over 200,000 people in Minneapolis and St. Paul waiting to be my friend!
