Friday Long Run

random

runnings
I have an important airport pickup tomorrow morning so I had to shift my long run to this morning. Since last weekend was a bit disappointing for me I wanted to get in some mileage but it meant an early wakeup call. I was up at 5 for some breakfast and running by 6am. I did get 13 in and was only a tad late for work. Nothing seems to be hurting right now either. Maybe a bit less mileage last week helped or maybe I’ve just worked into things a bit more. Or perhaps I can justify the massage I had yesterday.

Harmony in the Garden

random
I love that Minneapolis can bring close to 10,000 to an outdoor concert on a museum lawn and that that audience can wrap up the show singing in four part harmony with The Decembrists. Kind of like not being able to play in the game without being in school for that day, part of the reason I got out for Saturday’s run despite not feeling well was so I could go to Rock the Garden guilt free. It was worth venturing out with the sore throat.

runnings
I had a rather disappointing run Saturday. I only made 8 miles and even had a rest in the middle. RF and I were going to run up Summit and back for 10 miles. I made it 4 and waited at the water fountain as RF went to the turn around came back. I wasn’t feeling the best and a visit to Urgent Care today confirmed a sinus infection. However, I think I saw the doctor mentally roll his eyes when he asked what symptoms were bothering me the most and I responded it was the fact that it was getting in the way of my marathon training.

Wine and the Purse

random
The big purse has come in handy again. A full bottle of wine fits in it. I’m heading to a friend’s this evening so rather than try and stop home first, I brought a bottle of white wine with me to work. The bottle was already chilled, and not wanting to let it warm up and be chilled again, I brought it in to work to put it in the break room fridge. The handy big purse allowed me to do so discretely! Of course, I hope it’s still there…

runnings
RF and I did go for 13 miles last weekend and my foot and knee don’t seem to be any worse. In fact, I’m feeling much more positive this week. Not faster, but at least more positive.

Pains

random

runnings
I made a special trip to pick up some new shoes today in hopes the old ones were contributing to the cause of some recent pains for me. Some swelling and pain in my knee is not new, but I’m now also experiencing some pain in my left foot. It seems similar to what I experienced last year but it’s much earlier in training. RF and I aren’t relaxing after our halves so we’re at a bit higher mileage than last year at this point and I’m worried this is contributing to my troubles. Every part of me except my left knee and left foot wants to push harder. I’m worried I simply can’t.

With the Marines

random

runnings
Yesterday RF and I went out for 12 miles in the rain. We were completely soaked but it was worth it for the nod from the Marines. We were running in Fort Snelling and crossed paths with a young man with a Marines t-shirt running at quite the clip. We eventually came upon a van with four other marines who were obviously the ones pushing on the other runners in the rain. Our path took us right past the serious men and their van. As we passed, the leader of the group clapped his hands and said “nice run ladies, nice run”. Yep, RF and I were out with the marines in the rain.
