Adjusted Attitude

random

runnings
My last two long runs have adjusted my attitude as I had hoped. Last weekend was warm, but I ran the 14 I felt I had missed the week before. Feeling optimistic, RF and I tackled 16 yesterday. Thanks to a little ineptitude with my Garmin, I lost almost a mile during our run. I wasn’t positive how much it was at the time so we ran to the 16 on the Garmin, knowing it was a bit extra. We weren’t quick, but it was more of a LSD run and I’m excited to be at 17 miles already. I even was surprised how the heat didn’t seem to be a factor. Granted it was a nice day with lower humidity and a breeze, but I’d like to think I’m acclimating to summer again too. And am sporting a good attitude.

Training Again

random

runnings
Over the past month I’ve been learning how to recover from a marathon and right away start training for another. It is now 12 weeks out from the Twin Cities and I need to be conscious of mileage. I did take a week off after the Minneapolis Marathon before running any mileage and only started at about 3 miles. The following weekend for my long run I ran twice in a day to get in 10 miles, telling myself it was a good method to make some mileage and not over do it. I was comfortable with a straight 10 within a week and even ran 12 in hot, muggy Kansas over the 4th (not very fast, mind you). I feel like RF and I should be able to be ahead in an 18 week training schedule since we did just train and complete a marathon recently so I was excited to push for 14 this weekend. Then it hit. Strep. I can’t believe what an awful experience that was. Friday I was out of commission and slept for about 20 hours. I’m recovering well, but I haven’t been able to think of running the last two days. RF made the 14 without me, as she should, but I have to admit jealousy. Now I’m worried about falling behind again. After putting in 18 weeks and a marathon already, this is frustrating. I want to see the experience of two marathons in a year as something that will boost my second marathon. I’m going to see if I can get in a few miles tomorrow morning, but I feel like next weekend is going to have to be an attitude adjusting run.
