Birthday Text Messages

random
Last year I mentioned receiving several voice mail messages on my birthday. This year I received several messages, but they were text messages. I woke up yesterday to six text messages wishing me a happy birthday. I did still receive a voicemail from my sister, but she still didn’t sing.

runnings
The group of people I run with at work have started meeting in the mornings to run instead of going at noon because of the heat. Yesterday my first act of my birthday was to text the group saying I was going to sleep in instead. Everyone agreed this was a good idea. This morning it is back to it though!

Registered for the 10 Mile

random

runnings
I received my referral code allowing me to register for the TC 10 Mile a few weeks ago. Today I made use of it and officially signed up for the race on October 7th. I’m starting to look for some races before then though.

Power Park

random
The Power Park is now open at St Anthony Main. This past weekend a friend of mine and I checked it out while at the Stone Arch Festival.

Construction Updates

random
Over the weekend I was looking to head to St Paul via 35W and 62 and realized I should try and find out if there would be any closings due to the 35W/62 reconstruction project. I found MnDOT has a nice page with updates on the progress. Don't forget to sign up for email updates.

runnings
I’ll admit I’ve been lacking a little on my running lately. However, this weekend a friend of mine got me out for hills again. It had to have been close to 90˚ F when we ran. But with plenty of hydration we made it through – just not very fast.

Two Weeks of Extra Sleep

random
The Associated Sleep Societies held their 21st Annual Meeting in Minneapolis this week. One study presented at the meeting explored the effects of getting extra sleep before an athletic event. The study suggests extra sleep for two weeks prior to an event can increase energy and athletic performance. This seems to make complete sense and the natural conclusion would be that this sleep has more benefits beyond athletics. So why am I up past 11 pm working on a blog entry? Getting that continual extra sleep also implies to me giving something up or falling behind. Perhaps I’ll first start with getting to bed early one night a week.

O! Omaha!

random
Omaha is a great little city. I was working much of the time, but I did get to enjoy the city. The Old Market has a lot of great little bars and restaurants. What was really enjoyable was seeing how people really seemed to know each other. Sunday night my coworker and I went out to dinner and as we are sitting on the patio we noticed a security officer talking to some people. Soon we saw at least 2 groups of people come by and greet Bobby, the security officer. Later when we moved to another bar for a drink, Bobby showed up and received a warm welcome from a group of girls. This familiarity is great to visit and observe, but I’m still happy with some of the anonymity of a larger city.

runnings
I worked and perhaps played too hard this weekend to get a good run in.

G8 Critical Mass

random
I seem to have hit a bit of a low on my postings. I didn’t realize I have had nothing to say on RR for a week. It isn’t a case of lack of things to say (in fact, I seem to throw people off when I’m quiet), but just a lack of time. I’m not sure I’ll have time for this since I leave for a weekend work trip early Saturday morning, but tomorrow there is a G8 Critical Mass in Minneapolis. I’ve never participated in a Critical Mass, but the intention tomorrow is to coincide with the International Day Of Action against Climate Change. I’m not quite one for “rebellion, revolt and revolution” as the Rising Tide suggests, but a group of cyclists with a purpose could at least create a stir.
