Tree Lights and Snow

Lights on the tree outside my parent's house, full of the recent snow. My next photos should be from Isla Holbox.

Augusta

random

My trip to Kansas was short, but it was great to see my sister and her family. The temperature was in the 30s, except for the day they got a ‘snow storm’, or so they called the inch of snow on the ground. I’m not sure many Kansans could handle a Minnesota winter.

My sister actually lives in a small town outside of Wichita.

I Like Mild Winter Running

random

runnings
I’ve been known to say I like winter running. This winter I’m learning I need to clarify that statement. I like winter running in the mild winters we’ve had the last couple years. I’m still getting out there, but I’m not enjoying it quite as much. For example, this weekend I found myself frustrated after my run Saturday. I wanted to do a longer run, but the -7° F wind chill prevented me. I layered my tights, put on several top layers and a balaclava, but my eyelashes were frozen within a few minutes and my balaclava would freeze whenever I pulled it down from my mouth. While I feel I can run at that temperature, I just don’t feel like I can sustain it for a long run. While invigorated, I came back from my run Saturday wanting more of a workout.

Don't Block the Box

Don’t forget to avoid ‘blocking the box’ when driving in a snowy rush hour.

Things Runners Will Do

random

runnings
The cold last week was a bit of a shock and the snow over the weekend just didn’t get me motivated for a run. So by today, I really wanted to get out there. It was a wind-chill of around 10°F when I got out, but I came to work prepared with multiple tights and a variety of cold weather accessories. While trying to figure out the perfect mix of layers, however, I apparently forgot a sports bra. Since I was running late in the day and my desire for the run was strong enough, I decided to run in the bra I wore to work and risk sitting around in it for the remainder the day. It figures I would come back to my desk after the run to find a meeting scheduled for the end of the day.
