Foot Pain

random

runnings
I’d been having some pain on the top of my foot during long runs for a couple weeks. It usually would hit around 10 miles but would go away shortly after the run. I’ve just ignored it. It definitely showed up during last weekends longer-than-expected run. And it continued. I haven’t run since Saturday. I talked to an ortho doctor I know and he surmise I have tendonitis on the top of my foot. He suggested ice and advil and backing off. No 14 mile runs this weekend. As he suggested, I’m trying to let pain be my guide, but I think I can try a run tomorrow.

Whoops

random

runnings
After running about an hour forty-five yesterday I was ready to say I had conquered the hills at my parents. I’d made it up and down each one, save for the ridiculously steep one that is quicker to walk anyway. I had increased the distance of the route and still had some left, but I was feeling good. My original goal was 13.5 like last weekend, but I gave myself a little leeway considering the hills and just wanted to be sure I hit 12 miles. When I hit two hours and was still on a portion of the route heading away from town, I admitted I had miscalculated the mileage and any upcoming hill was going to win. In order to make sure I got back to my parents, I walked another particularly ominous hill, but then slowly ran the rest of the way in. It looks like I ran 14.5 miles. Whoops. No wonder why I felt a bit ill afterwards.

Adventure Run

random

runnings
Saturdays run didn’t quite get me the mileage I’d hoped for, but I think we were only about a mile short of my desired 13. I’ve always been curious about the paths in Fort Snelling, so my friends and I tried it out. We weren’t quite sure the mileage or the proper routes and it didn’t help that I was convinced we should be able to run by the river. This resulted in a bit of an adventure run through the woods. At one point we had to give up, back up and trek up some rather daunting stairs. I think this varied terrain added some interest and new physical challenge, even if we came up a bit short on distance.

Relay?

random

runnings
Last year I discovered the Great River Ragnar Relay, a 205-mile team relay over 24 hours in August from La Crosse WI to Minneapolis MN. I posed this to a few running friends as something to tackle last year, but they all decided it didn’t sound like a fun way to spend one of their last summer weekends. I personally think it sounds like a lot of fun. And I just had a friend come to me with a spot to fill on her team this year. Now my conundrum is if it is a good idea to tackle while training for my first marathon. The end of August would be when I’d be attempting some key distances. I can always see about adjusting the runs and I’m pretty sure one or two of my friends training with me would adjust with me. I’m also concerned that this challenge could lead to injury, but on the other hand it could also lead to some added mental strength. I need to think about this, but I also need to decide soon.

Manual Photos

random
With the help of a friend I started exploring the manual side of my camera over the weekend.

runnings
RF and I were able to get out for a slow, but good ten miles yesterday. We weren’t sure if we were going to do the full 10, but lively conversation is always a good motivator.

Post Cold Run

random

runnings
I finally got out for a short run today after suffering though a horrible cold all week. It was a little warm, but I was still happy to be running, even if all my lungs seemed to handle was a couple miles. I don’t think the week off really hurt my training and I probably can afford to miss tomorrow’s long run, but I’ll still get out and try some sort of distance.
